Potential impacts of global warming and climate change on the epidemiology of zoonotic diseases in Canada.

چکیده

Global climate change may add to the risk of infectious diseases faced by Canadians. A warmer climate may permit the northward expansion of certain disease reservoir animal hosts and vectors increasing the risk to Canadians from zoonotic diseases, i.e., diseases that are transmissible between animals and humans. A shorter, less severe winter would prolong the transmission season for many existing Canadian zoonoses, and could allow previously exotic zoonoses that enter Canada to become established. Significant challenges to epidemiological forecasting arise from complex interactions among climatic factors, zoonotic disease agents, other infectious agents, underlying human health and immunity, socio-economic factors, and ecological parameters. Public health officials and health care providers need to be kept informed of the changing nature of zoonotic disease risk in order to be vigilant in the early detection of disease, and to plan to respond to new or increased health risks. Surveillance and public education will also help protect Canadians from any additional zoonotic health risks of climate change.

Earth as Humans’ Habitat: Global Climate Change and the Health of Populations

Human-induced climate change, with such rapid and continuing global-scale warming, is historically unprecedented and signifies that human pressures on Earth’s life-supporting natural systems now exceed the planet’s bio-geo-capacity. The risks from climate change to health and survival in populations are diverse, as are the social and political ramifications. Although attributing observed health...

بررسی تأثیر تغییرات اقلیمی بر روی بیماری های انگلی

Introduction: Climate changes are one of the factors associated with human activities for the destruction of the ecosystem. This factor leads to global warming, changing rainfall patterns, increasing the amount and severity of climate factors such as storms, and rising sea levels. Parasites are also an integral part of this ecosystem; therefore, the present study considered the effect of climat...

Vulnerability of waterborne diseases to climate change in Canada: a review.

This project addresses two important issues relevant to the health of Canadians: the risk of waterborne illness and the health impacts of global climate change. The Canadian health burden from waterborne illness is unknown, although it presumably accounts for a significant proportion of enteric illness. Recently, large outbreaks with severe consequences produced by E. coli O157:H7 and Cryptospo...
